In Development: Mythbound, a MASSIVE Sequel to Myth Bearer!
Myth Bearer » Devlog
Hello, I wanted to announce that a sequel to Myth Bearer called Mythbound is currently in development!
There will be quite a few differences between the two games, so here is a list of what's noteworthy:
- Gameplay will be similar to Myth Bearer, but with many more QOL features and smoother gameplay flow.
- Some of the new QOL features include click-to-move with pathfinding, a new map menu, a tutorial level, an option that displays the total damage enemies will deal to you (allowing you to make decisions far more quickly), and various difficulty modes with the option to lower the difficulty at any time.
- To expand on "smoother gameplay flow", interactions will mostly take place within the environment, meaning there won't be any inventory management or fiddling around with menus. There will however be more environmental elements, such as traps, slippery ice, objects that buff enemies, ect.
- Combat will work a bit differently. Battles are now fought to completion (you hit each other until the enemy dies), and you will be able collect items that raise health/ATT/DEF. There is also a new mechanic called Aura Power (or AP) that makes choosing which fights to pick dramatically more dynamic.
- Rather than having one massive world, the game will be divided into self-contained chapters or episodes. This helps mitigate the whole "getting stuck in an unwinnable situation and losing hours of progress" thing and also makes it easier to add new content in the future. Chapters are like mini metroidvania worlds and each will be about the size of the original Myth Bearer map. Currently, there are 5 full-length (plus some bonus) chapters planned for the full game.
- You will receive a score at the end of each episode that will appear on the Steam leaderboards (if playing on Steam). The score value will be based on your level, health, and difficulty. It will generally reflect the total efficiency and completion of your runs.
- Expect considerably better graphics and sound, it is still a pixel art game though (because pixel art is KING). And yes, the text is more readable.
- A massive story that connects back to Myth Bearer. I think Myth Bearer fans in particular will enjoy this game and its story quite a bit.
- A massive soundtrack. I currently have a whopping 68 tracks saved for this project, and they're all quite catchy. ;)
- A massive final game. The full release is expected to include roughly 30-40 hours of content for a first playthrough, though I do plan on releasing chapters in Early Access form as they are finished. I expect to release the game in Early Access mid 2025 (no guarantees though).
I will be posting regular project updates on X/Twitter (https://x.com/JC_Bailey1112). You can also join the Moonskull Games Discord (https://discord.gg/VGGQ9anmpt) for more regular updates. Thanks for your support!
PS: Can someone please popularize a term for this game genre? >_>
